International Empathy started with the Freshmen Leadership Abroad Program at Purdue University. After returning from Costa Rica and Peru, the class as a whole was tasked with taking aciton. In response, our team banded together with the common goal of spreading empathy. International Empathy developed after many sessions of brainstorming. Now we bring to the Purdue Community an empathy project geared towards international students by blogging with interviews. Our aim is to share the value of empathy with Purdue through interviewing various international students.

I am a freshman from Sylvania, Ohio currently in the First-Years of Engineering at Purdue University. I am pursuing a B.S. in Chemical Engineering then attending law school for intellectual property law. This past summer I was a member of the Global Leadership in Costa Rica program for freshmen. Our program had many focusses, such as, sustainability, empathy, leadership, and global citizenship. The subject I found most interesting was empathy. Aysha, Emma, and I all shared this interest. As a group we would like to help international students as they make the difficult transition to school in the US. Our goal is to interview international students to discover the similarities and differences across cultures as well as to allow other students to see what programs Purdue offers to help in this transition.
I am a first year Biochemistry major at Purdue University from Indianapolis, Indiana. After undergrad, I will be pursuing a medical degree and a career as a forensic pathologist. Over the summer I was a part of the Global Leadership in Peru program, where we learned about empathy and how it relates to leadership as well as the sustainablity of a nation. When tasked with creating an action project, the focus I took was on empathy and cultural awareness. With a broad idea, Matthew, Emma, and I were able to form a partnership to try to express our empathy goals. The focus towards international students became an apparent necessity when considering that our life changing experience happened in another country. I hope that through this project, we can aid future international students in finding helpful ways of adjusting to life here at Purdue and in America.
I am a freshman from Chicago, IL and I am currently pursuing a degree at Purdue University in Computer and Information Technology with a focus in network security and a minor in Computer Science. The summer before freshman year, I had the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica as part of a study abroad global leadership program through Purdue University. Through this program, we explored the ideas of leadership, empathy, and the impact we have on others. Upon our return home, I was still intrigued with the idea of empathy and knew I would want to incorperate that into my action project. Matthew and Aysha also wanted to work with empathy and thus we joined together to create International Empathy. Through this project, I hope we are able to connect international students through their experiences and expand the concept of empathy and the importance behind it. I also hope international students reading this blog will find a way to adjust to their new life at Purdue.
